Our skin is the largest elimination organ and it is vital for our health. Skin “issues” are a mirror to what is going on inside the body. For example chronic hives is a sign your stress hormones are out of whack. Acne can be a sign of high cortisol, a stress hormone, dietary intolerances such as dairy or hormonal imbalances.
It is vital to be good to and take care of our skin. As we age, the moisture barrier of the skin becomes weakened. Good oils taken orally and topically are important for skin to retain its’ moisture and integrity:
Omega 3 oils- taken orally can reduce skin inflammation and prevent aging.
You can take capsules or liquids or increase your fish consumption such as mackerel, sardines, herring, anchovies and salmon.

Be sure to eat lots of Antioxidant rich foods to help your skin repair itself and prevent wrinkles.

Vitamin C- taken internally and topically can help fight sun damaged skin. We need vitamin C to make collagen.
Protect Your Skin! Skin cancer rates are on the rise. Be sure to protect your skin with safe, chemical free sunscreens. The following list are what to look out for in a sunscreen.
Do not buy a sunscreen with these harmful chemicals:
- SPF above 50- this is misleading
- Retinyl palmitate
- Aerosol spray and powder sunscreen
- Added insect repellent
Say yes to:
- Hats and shade in mid-day sun
- Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide as active ingredients, otherwise Avobenzone (at 3%)
- SPF 15 to 50, depending on your own skin coloration, time outside, shade and cloud cover.
- Use a lot and reapply frequently
